As editorial cartoonist for the Cape Times since 1974, and also for periods with the Sunday Times and Sunday Independent, Tony Grogan has chronicled a watershed period of South African history.

Caricature is an art which Tony has developed to a high point. In a few swift lines he manages to capture the character and exaggerated likeness of his subject with wit and sensitivity. He prefers to work from life .

Tony Grogan has illustrated many books for both children and adults. His pen and ink drawings are lively and spontaneous and particularly appropriate for vignette type illustration where the drawing is incorporated.

Seven books of Tony Grogan’s drawings and paintings have been published for which he also wrote the text. These are in the form of sketchbook diaries in which he records his observations and experiences.

Tony Grogan has had several one-man exhibitions of his work and his paintings and drawings are represented in valuable private and corporate collections. His drawings are in a variety of graphic media – pencil.
